Ian is the show's resident fly-tying expert. One of
Ontario's foremost fishing guides and instructors, he also wrote
the Canadian bestseller Fumbling with a Flyrod. Ian is well known
for his down-to-earth teaching methods and his no-guff, no-bull
approach to fly fishing; he calls a spade a spade and a strike
indicator a bobber. Ian is also an innovative and award-winning
fly tier. His Muncher Nymph has become a "modern day |
classic," a
successful pattern for many species of fish across North America
from brown trout to steelhead, salmon, bass and carp.
Professionally, Ian was the first certified full-time fly-fishing
guide on Ontario's renowned Grand River. In 1993, he was part of

the flies he created to catch carp, are considered standard
practice. Around the globe, he is known as "The Carpfather".
Ian is one of Canada's most respected fly-fishing guides, casting
instructors and professional fly tiers. He is also well known for
his quick wit, dry Scottish humour, his entertaining seminars and
his laugh-out-loud website
